Imelda Marcos at the Sapatos Festival Walk of Fame rites

Madam Imelda Romualdez Marcos will grace the Sapatos Festival in Marikina City as special guest of the “Shoeperstar Alley” 2012 (walk of fame) honorees.

The city government of Marikina celebrates the festival week of the Sapatos Festival 2012 on November 12-18.
Among the highlights of the celebration is the unveiling of the Shoe-per Star Alley (ala Hollywood Walk of Fame) on Tuesday, November 13, 6:00 p.m. at the Kapitan Moy (Sentrong Pangkultura ng Marikina) which is near the Shoe Museum along JP Rizal Street, Bgy. San Roque. The Shoe Museum showcases a part of the famous shoe collection of the former First Lady.

The event will honor personalities that in one way or the other have helped support and/or patronize the shoe industry of Marikina. They are Ms. Heidi Mendoza, Mr. Bonifacio Ilagan, Ms. Monique Wilson, Ms. Angel Locsin, Mr. Joel Lamangan, Ms. Venus Raj, Mr. Brian Tenorio, Ms. Winnie Cordero, Mr. Efren Peñaflorida Jr, and Mr. John Arcilla.

Likewise, as an expression of gratitude to his support to the local shoe industry, a posthumous recognition will be given to the late Rodolfo Vera Quizon a.k.a. Dolphy.
Aside from Marcos, another notable awardee for the 2011 Shoe-per Star Alley who will also grace the event is chess Grand Master Eugene Torre.

Marikina: First Recipient of Free SMS Blast from blaster.com.ph

Mayor Del De Guzman is proud to introduce the city’s latest innovation in providing the latest news happening in Marikina for free through the use of mobile phones: the Blaster.

“The Marikina City government is the first-ever city to use Blaster in providing public service announcements. It is the text counterpart of Twitter. We believe that using mobile phones in information dissemination is the fastest means to reach our constituents. Blaster shall be a big help to Marikina especially in times of disasters,” De Guzman said.

Blaster is the Philippines’ very own social networking media through S.M.S. which allows users to blast or send SMS or text messages to all of their followers’ phones for free.

Once registered, the user’s followers: family, friends, or colleagues can receive blast S.M.S. with just one sending.

“We made Blaster for public service. We realized the need of immediate access to information and communication especially during emergencies. Not all Filipinos have computers, televisions, and radio that’s why we taught of using a medium which all Filipino have- a mobile phone,” said Blast, one of the three programmers who created Blaster.

Anyone from the Philippines can join Blaster. Just type in: REG;<Your preferred Blaster Name without spaces and symbols>;<First Name>;<Last Name>;<Birthday in mm/dd/yyyy format>.

Blaster has three hotline numbers where users can send their desired transactions. These are: 0917-88-BLAST (Globe), 0925-88-BLAST (Sun), and 0939-93-BLAST (Smart) where BLAST stands for 25278.

Transactions can be sent to any of the three Blaster hotline numbers. If the user is currently subscribed to “Unlimited Text” service of networks, the Blaster hotline number of the same network can be used to still utilize the Unli subscription and make the transactions free of charge. If not, sending blast message to all the user’s followers shall only cost PhP1.00
